NEW YORK TV's biggest show had a big, big bash as HBO took over Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center's restaurants and event venues for an event to promote the new season of The Sopranos. Angela Lomascolo, HBO's director of media relations for special events, put together the event, which included a screening and a packed after-party.
Although the show's characters may favor red-checked tablecloths, event designer Carter Field went for a restrained, elegant look, using colors inspired by Italian gelato flavors, including honeydew and cantaloupe tones. For the different areas set up on the concourse and in the Rink Bar, Rock Center Cafe and Sea Grill, Field used a mix of colors and flowers, all designed to evoke the feel of a summer garden. There were beige dupioni silk tablecloths, orchids, lime green hydrangea and hanging lanterns covered in celadon green fabric. Lighting guru Bentley Meeker rotated different colors on the famous Prometheus sculpture, and used flattering honey and fuschia lights to offset the green lanterns.
