Big Bashes Get Bashed

Big magazine parties take a beating in a recent Women's Wear Daily story. “It's like penis envy with these parties,” said event planner Jeffrey Best, who has done work for Maxim. “Everyone is trying to be bigger and better.” WWD also estimates price tags for two recent launch parties: Oprah's bash with Tina Turner at Metropolitan Pavilion ($750,000) and Talk's Glorious Food-catered picnic ($250,000).

Jane's Jane Pratt pooh-poohs the events: “To get a whole slew of famous people to a party just for the coverage it will get the next day is a waste of resources.” What do you think?
