More than 800 people headed to a party at Blake's Restaurant and Lounge to watch owners Jan Weissberg and Seth Driggin celebrate the venue's relaunch and taste its new menu. The restaurant boasts a newly redesigned interior, which features muted grey walls adorned with black and white photos by Robert Bernard and Loren Ellis in simple square frames.
Executive chef Michael Scheiman's New American cuisine has lots of Latin, Asian and Mediterranean influences, and the menu includes dishes like a miso-glazed halibut, paella with chorizo and saffron rice and Szechwan short ribs with Peruvian potato croquettes. One of the popular drinks at the event was a cranberry cosmopolitan that was served from a self-serve container that was shaped like a giant martini glass.
For special events, the entire space (which includes the main floor with a bar, an upstairs loft level and a basement lounge) can accommodate 350 for a cocktail party or 250 for a sit-down dinner. An outdoor patio is scheduled to open in June.
