1. INAUGURATION APATHY?: On January 20, President Obama will be sworn in for his second term, but buzz surrounding the inauguration is much less exciting and will be more scaled back than four years ago. In 2009, 1.8 million people flocked to the Capitol to see the historic event and hotel rooms around the city and beyond were booked at the end of November. As of now, local hotels are still available. Details that have been released: Saratoga Springs Water Company will provide bottled water, wine served at the inaugural luncheon will be Finger Lakes riesling, and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir will perform during the ceremony. 2. SOCIAL MOMENTUM: Deep Focus has introduced a “creative newsroom” called Moment Studio, which is designed to create Facebook posts that go viral by taking advantage of what's going on online in real-time. Pepsi and Purina are among the first clients, and since Purina starting using Moment Studio, the brand's Facebook page engagement has increased by a significantly. According to Chris Padgett, Purina's vice president of marketing, 50,000 to 60,000 people engage with a single piece of Moment Studio-produced Facebook content, whereas with non-Moment Studio use, only about 12,000 Facebook users engage with a post. 3. FLOOR PLANNING: Google has introduced the ability to view floor plans of certain locations on Google Maps to make it easier for users to see the best routes possible and indoor details. Floor plans for more than 10,000 locations—airports, train stations, museums, and other public spaces—across the globe are currently available for viewing; the tool also allows venue owners to add their own indoor maps. BOSTON: The Christmas in the City kickoff and celebrity holiday tree auction is Thursday at the Seaport Hotel. The event includes an auction of to holiday trees decorated by Mayor Thomas Menino and the Boston Celtics.

CHICAGO:
Fish Bar will be available for rent on New Year's Eve—but to reserve it, potential hosts must bid for the venue on eBay. Bidding starts at a minimum of $5,000 and is open through Thursday. The highest bidder can host a party for 50 guests with a seafood-centric food spread, music, and specialty cocktails.

Thrillist and chef Graham Elliot will host a Rock Your Palate dinner at Floating World Gallery on December 11. Presented by MasterCard, the event will offer a four-course dinner, mixology drinks, an art exhibition, and live music.

La Isla Foundation's holiday fund-raiser is at Tuman's Tap & Grill on December 7. The event includes sangria, appetizers such as corn-and-black-bean fritters, and a silent auction.

Intelligent Lighting Creations provided lighting equipment for Leonard Cohen's world tour, which wraps up in Brooklyn December 20.

LOS ANGELES: The Recording Academy has announced 27 new additions to the Grammy Hall Of Fame, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2013.

GT Events, a marketing and brand promotion firm, has entered into a creative marketing alliance with the new Italian food truck Nonna’s Kitchenette.

The Intrepid Museum remains temporarily closed while it continues Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts, but plans to reopen for the holiday season in the coming weeks.

On November 27, John Legend will perform at J.C. Penney’s Citi Pond at Bryant Park to launch its 12-day Holiday Giving tour and the #GivingTuesday initiative.

Kelly Markus has been appointed vice president of production at DKC Public Relations and will lead the agency’s new event marketing team, DKC Incite.

ORLANDO: Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland expansion had its soft opening last week, inviting guests to explore some of the park’s newest attractions. The official grand opening is December 6.

TORONTO:
On Wednesday, Canfar will host Bloor Street Entertains. The night turns retail locations in the Bloor-Yorkville neighborhood into dining venues with meals from local chefs. This year, the night kicks off with a V.I.P. reception at the Royal Ontario Museum.

Following a recent $4.5 million renovation, the International Centre has a new Web site, logo, and catchphrase: “There's Something Happening Here!” The property also has a new executive chef, Tawfik Shehata.
