Mayor Daley and Pete Wentz Announce Fashion Focus 2008 Details
|
This morning, the Department of Cultural Affairs hosted a press conference to announce the details of Fashion Focus 2008, which will take place October 1 through October 8 and celebrate local fashion with runway shows, free seminars, and a slew of parties that will be held throughout the city.
Inside the Hard Rock Hotel's Fender Ballroom today, speakers including Mayor Richard Daley and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz addressed an audience that included local fashion writers, designers, and a very pregnant Ashlee Simpson. The mayor said that the week will focus on greening with a temporary museum of sustainable style. Dubbed M.O.S.S., the museum will overtake a furniture design studio in Fulton Market and will showcase green clothing, accessories, and furniture from local designers.
Wentz—a Wilmette native—took the opportunity to announce that he will showcase pieces from his clothing line, Clandestine Industries, during this year's fashion shows. Other new features of 2008's weeklong event will include beauty lounges from sponsor Lancôme and a fashion show featuring the work of student designers. —Jenny Berg
