Last month, a rep from the Tribune Company told us that the media conglomerate's recently announced bankruptcy will not affect its capacity to sponsor events. Lo and behold, The Chicago Tribune will act as presenting sponsor for the Adventures in Travel Expo, which hits the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center this Saturday and Sunday.
John Golicz, show organizer and C.E.O. of Unicomm LLC, described the partnership as "mutually beneficial," explaining, "They support us by promoting our show to their readers." He added that the The Tribune's editorial travel guides give the publication and the expo a mutual client base.

While Obama's in Grant Park, Other Hosts Offer Their Own Election Night Events
|
As you probably know by now (and we reported here, here, and here) the big event in Chicago on November 4th will be Obama's Grant Park rally, which the Democratic presidential candidate will attend, win or lose, and which is slated to draw 65,000 spectators, a formidable array of security officers, and a plethora of hot-chocolate and hot-dog carts. But for those without tickets, events are also happening at local hotels, bars, restaurants, and museums.
It's a safe bet that the aforementioned 65,000 Grant Park spectators will not include any staunch conservatives or volunteers from John McCain's Chicago headquarters. The latter group will take their election night festivities across the street to the Hilton Chicago, where the Chicago Young Republicans, Republican state party chair Andy McKenna, and Cook County commissioner Tony Peraica will host a free-admission celebration beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature a teleconference with local and congressional candidates, light appetizers, and a cash bar.

Toast of the Town: In 2003, former nightclub owner Rob Katz partnered with Kevin Boehm, a new-to-Chicago restaurateur. Combining their sensibilities (and the first two letters of their last names), they opened Lincoln Park restaurant Boka, featuring a loungelike setting and progressive American fare.
With the success of Boka and Landmark, the contemporary American restaurant it opened in 2005, the team was flooded with catering requests, but getting a license didn’t become top priority until this year, with the opening of Perennial, the duo’s third Lincoln Park restaurant. Perennial is on the ground floor of the new—and event-friendly—Park View Hotel and across the street from event space A New Leaf. “We knew there would be a lot of catered parties going on,” Katz says. Not wanting to miss out on such an abundance of opportunities, Boehm and Katz finally launched a full-service catering firm, BRG Catering, in January.
