| Mayor's Office of Special Events Puts Trump Spire Installation on Hold |
|
The Chicago Tribune reported today that installation of a 227-foot, steel-and-fiberglass spire on top of Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago will no longer take place this weekend. According to Andrew Weiss, the Trump Organization's executive vice president, city officials pushed back the installation, which would have seen helicopters lifting the spire in place on Saturday and Sunday. "The last I heard, for reasons that are not completely clear to me, the city's department of special events doesn't want us to do it this weekend," Weiss said. A spokeswoman for the Mayor's Office of Special Events said that all questions regarding the spire should go the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications, but The Tribune could not immediately reach a rep for the latter agency. At this point, it's unclear if the election-night rally factors into the decision to postpone.
The spire's installation will now likely take place on November 15 and 16, and will help the tower reach 1,361 feet, making it the second-tallest building in Chicago after Sears Tower.
