Along with the announcement of more than 50 winners, the evening included cocktails, speeches from AARP&nbsp;staff, dinner, and a keynote address.</p>
<p>Nancy Shaffer, founder and C.E.O. of Washington, D.C.-based <a href="http://www.bizbash.com/chicago/content/resource/r830120.php">Bravo! Events by Design</a>, produced the event and said that this year's 350 guests outnumbered last year's crowd by nearly 100. The back entrance helped keep the general admission ticket holders on the main floor, allowing the V.I.P. ticket holders (distinguished by their pink rubber bracelets) exclusive access to the upstairs area, where a selection of designer handbags and shoes from sponsoring partner Nordstrom could be found.</p>
<p>Maggie Daley returned as this year&rsquo;s honorary chair (she also chaired the Museum of Science and Industry's <a href="http://www.bizbash.com/chicago/content/editorial/e12883.php">Columbian Ball</a>), while Judy Fitzgerald of Macquarie Real Estate and Joe Silich of Morgan Stanley served as co-chairs of the shopping event, fashion show, and cocktail party. Denise Hicks, the museum's manager of campaign special events, planned the ball dubbed "Unbelievable! 75 Years of Inspiration" in honor of the museum's 75th anniversary.</p>
<p>Though Hicks said that the state of the economy made finding sponsors "a little more challenging" than usual this year, the event ultimately landed principal sponsorships from companies such as Allstate, BP, and United Airlines. "What helped the most [with attracting sponsors] is who the co-chairs were," Hicks said. "[Our co-chairs] are well-known in the community and the city, and their involvement made people want to be a part of this event." While working on the event, Gen Art Chicago staffers Carolyn Pelissero, Lauren Hurley, and Marcia Callaghan said that they devoted most of their planning time to securing national sponsors.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>
<p>And throughout the cocktail reception, fashion show, and after-party, there was no question about who those sponsors were. "Great restaurants, great chefs, and great nightclubs are all a part of being a global city," Daley said at the kickoff reception. Grace Designs decorated a modern living room in shades of gray, chocolate, and ivory. A kitchen, library, bedroom, foyer, home office, dining room, and terrace round out the design house. Every year we have a themed garden party, and he always comes up with amazing ways to communicate and deliver a theme. He did a Japanese garden party for us one year, and this year we had a 1933 World&rsquo;s Fair theme. In addition to planning five major events throughout the year, she manages a 12-member team of event specialists who work on more than 200 events annually, including fund-raising galas and golf outings. Currently, Steffus is working on the September 10 public launch of a fund-raising campaign for the Streeterville hospital (which recently celebrated its <a href="http://www.bizbash.com/chicago/content/editorial/e10874.php">groundbreaking</a>).<br />

<p><em>Crain's</em> lists banks and financial service firms as "out of the running"&nbsp;(pun presumably not intended)&nbsp;for sponsorship due to the current financial crisis. Selakovich manages all marketing initiatives for the five Chicago-based Modern Luxury publications (<em>CS, The Men&rsquo;s Book, Chicago Social Brides, CS Interiors</em>, and <em>Front Desk</em>), cultivates sponsorship opportunities for local and national advertisers, and fosters strategic partnerships in the city. She will be responsible for planning approximately 200 events in Chicago and and the greater metropolitan area for all of the titles. <br />

Fashion Focus Chicago, a series of events showcasing the city's fashion talent, kicks off with a fashion show and installation at O'Hare on Friday.</p>
<p>In a partnership between the Chicago Department of Aviation and the Chicago Office of Tourism, "Chicago Fashion in the Airport" will feature several fashion shows that move to different terminals throughout the day while promoting the work of local designers.
