Fashion Awards Scale Back

April 17, 2002, 12:00 AM EDT

The Council of Fashion Designers of America is significantly cutting back on the size of its annual awards event and moving it from Lincoln Center to the Celeste Bartos Forum at the New York Public Library. The number of tickets issued will shrink from 2,000 to 450 for the June 3 event--which was featured in our list of New York's Top 100 Events. Meanwhile, the price is going up: Guests will pay $1,750 a ticket for the sit-down dinner, $250 more than last year.

“It's a nod to the mood of the country,” CFDA president Stan Herman told The New York Times. “Every winner had their PR people, their licensing people, their friends and relatives.” Also, he said, “a lot of members had stopped coming because they felt the event was no longer about them.”
