1. DISCOVERY TO BROADCAST LIVE JUMP OFF MOUNT EVEREST: Following successful daredevil stunts such as Felix Baumgartner’s free fall from space and Nik Wallenda’s tightrope walk across the canyon, Discovery Channel will show a man jumping off of the summit of Mount Everest—live. It airs in May. Hollywood Reporter: “Discovery said it plans to air two hourlong pre-shows revealing his training and preparations, followed by the live two-hour broadcast that will show [Joby] Ogwyn's ascent to the summit and jump from the top. His custom-made wingsuit will be equipped with cameras providing a bird’s-eye view as he descends more than 10,000 vertical feet at speeds of more than 150 miles per hour.” http://bit.ly/1nUgXrx
2. SOCHI BLOCKS SHIPMENT OF CHOBANI YOGURT TO U.S. ATHLETES: The Russian government is tying up 5,000 cups of U.S. Olympic sponsor Chobani yogurt, citing customs regulations. New York Times: “The blockade has prompted protests from yogurt-promoting politicians in New York and in Washington, who express outrage that American athletes could be deprived of a protein-rich food that had been part of their training regimen.” http://nyti.ms/1fHZvCU
3. PUSSY RIOT HIGHLIGHTS AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL CONCERT: Amnesty International’s Human Rights concert, in which Madonna introduced two members of the Russian activist band Pussy Riot, was last night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. New York Post: “Amnesty’s attempts to raise awareness was the main point of the evening. But in between the often harrowing tales of human rights abuses, there was plenty of music to soften the impact—or not in the case of Yoko Ono and the Flaming Lips who collaborated on a wild noise jam late on.” http://bit.ly/1lCrmtm
