In Hancock Park at the La Brea Tar Pits, this museum is the world’s only active urban excavation site containing Ice Age fossils in rich asphalt (tar pit) deposits. Events are set among mammoths, saber-toothed cats, and wolves. The main gallery surrounds a tropical atrium and holds 400 for receptions; a terrace overlooking the Pleistocene Garden holds 400; and three theaters each hold 60.
