INCENTIVE: A Culinary Tour of Asia

If you're looking for an incentive trip or an executive meeting that's spicier than your average hotel conference room, a Southeast Asian culinary tour might be the right choice. Saffron 59 chef and Burma native Irene Wong (shown at left) leads two-week luxury tours through Southeast Asia that include a crash cooking course for 15 to 25 people. For about $6,000 a head, participants have cooked with local chefs and explored out-of-the-way markets, architecture and art. “The highlight is spontaneity--cooking for 72 monks, or having Chino-Latino parties, which is Asian and Latin American food [served] on a junk boat,” Wong told us. The next tour is scheduled for February 2002, but booking has already started. --Samantha Melamed
