As the calendar barrels toward Labor Day and summer's unofficial end, Los Angeles eventgoers are making their annual efforts to soak up every last alfresco moment. To that end, Boost Mobile's barbecue at Fingerprint Communications' Project Beach House in Malibu was packed on an idyllic Saturday afternoon, with partygoers parking their cars at a lot on Pacific Coast Highway and riding shuttles to the home to avoid any traffic bottlenecks on the residential stretch.
Boost director of marketing services Caralene Robinson worked on the event for the brand, while Fingerprint coordinated the overall logistics at the property, as it does for all functions at the house this summer.
At the home, which sprawls over four-plus acres of eye-bulging beachfront, guests took their turn splashing on an inflatable Boost-logoed slip-and-slide lawn toy, or meandered with Red Bulls and cocktails through the swimming pool.

New Slate of Coachella Party Hosts Increases Nighttime Offerings

FROM INDIO, CALIF. Since the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which wrapped yesterday after a three-day run at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, dependably reinvents itself every year, it's perhaps not a surprise that the brands that host piggybacking parties in the desert also change and evolve.
DKNY Jeans, which set up a multiday pool party at a luxury home last year, sat out this year's go round, as did Hugo Boss. "It's just hard to find the right house very close to the fields," said Hugo Boss Fashions' New York-based vice president of marketing and PR, Katja Douedari, who oversaw Boss's event series in 2007. "Loved the Mod Resort last year, but it's a long drive. And if you can't do it right, then better not do it all." (Nevertheless, Douedari made the trip out to the desert for some non-work-related fun.)
So what brands did have the strongest presence in 2008?

When people in other parts of the country conjure (or fantasize about) Southern California, the image might involve something like beaches, surfing, celebrities and beautiful people, and endless summer. And that essentially summed up the scene at Boost Mobile's barbecue at the Polaroid Beach House in Malibu on Saturday, which dispensed with the ho-hum party fare by offering surf lessons on the beach in front of the property.
Alongside pro surfers such as Kelly Slater, Sunny Garcia, Rob Machado, and Ian Walsh, guests tried their luck in lessons given by instructors on the Boost Mobile team. There were no waves to speak of on the warm summer afternoon, but folks took to the water nonetheless. Billabong gear, boards, and wetsuits were on hand for guests to borrow (and freebie Boost Mobile T-shirts were scattered around the house for guests to take home).
