For its fourth installment, fashion trade show Class took place August 27 and 28 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. The semiannual eco-focused show stuck to its M.O., keeping an emphasis on green exhibitors and vendors—and increased the number of footwear exhibitors. During downtime, which organizers dubbed "recess," attendees could receive spa treatments from Osea, haircuts and styling from Barracuda Hair, and, new for this session, makeovers by Hourglass Cosmetics.
One significant change was the addition of a party on Thursday night at the Santa Monica Civic Center. “We did this party with a band called Pollen, sponsored by Christy’s Hats and Volkswagen. There’s no bowling night this time—we decided to take advantage of the space at the Santa Monica Civic Center, and just have a party here,” said Class director Jason Bates. In the past, organizers had planned an annual bowling night as an exercise for attendees to meet one another and network.

Now in its second year, the Class fashion trade show took to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium for its third installment. The two-day eco-friendly show ran on February 2 and 3 and saw an increased in exhibitors and attendees—despite the declining economy. “The number-one thing everybody is talking about in New York is the economy. I’m not hearing that here. People that are here are going to weather this storm, and they’re looking at the positive and how [to] get through it. We’ve actually grown 20 percent in the number of brands [represented],” Class director Jason Bates said.
New elements at the event included spa services from Osea, which offered massages, facials, and hand treatments; and a haircutting station from Barracuda Hair. Mod furniture decked lounge areas throughout the venue and a DJ spun.

After its debut in March of this year, fashion trade show Class returned to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium August 19 and 20 for its second eco-friendly show. Creator Jason Bates added a host of new elements focused on environmental friendliness and Southern California culture and worked with event producer Matt Wise to make it happen.
"Class was created as a reaction to the dullness and overwhelming lack of inspiration that exists at other industry trade shows," Bates said. "Vegas has become an overwhelming corporate behemoth that, while important, lacks the creative newness, stimulation, and edginess of a true fashion leader. I feel that it is time to bring it all home to California, where it all began."

The new fashion trade show Class took to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium last weekend with an array of eco-minded initiatives, from practical to whimsical. Here's what organizers did to stay on message and keep the style-minded attendees interested.
Class staffers pushed carts of organic and sustainable snacks directly to showgoers, who munched on rolled veggie or turkey sandwiches and bananas provided by Dole and sipped beverages from Honest Tea while browsing the fashion wares. At a refreshment station, bicyclists powered blenders that whipped up organic fruit smoothies in an unconventional and fully green way.
