Jaguar Celebrates Anniversary at Custom-Built $13 Million Esquire House

For the third iteration of the Esquire House in Los Angeles, the men's magazine took an unusual approach to decor in its temporary base for events with advertisers and charities. Rather than hire event designers to evoke the target Esquire reader's luxury lifestyle in an existing home, the 2008 house really represents an upscale reader's high-end digs. That's because Esquire associate publisher Stephen Jacoby collaborated with his friend, L.A. designer Xorin Balbes, to custom design and build a 7,400-square-foot palace to the good life in the Hollywood Hills—in the hope of selling it to one of the magazine's well-heeled guests.

“It's a masculine house with a little bit of outrageous in it,” said Balbes, who's asking just under $13 million for the home, completed just a month ago. “I thought the Esquire man would be entertaining a lot.” MORE >>

Maxim Dramatizes "Hot 100" Party's New York-to-L.A. Move

Maxim is not a magazine known for doing things subtly or quietly. So when the pub took its “Hot 100” party—which celebrates 100 women recognized in the magazine’s June issue—from New York to Los Angeles, Alpha Media Group’s corporate events director, Amanda Civitello, made sure the move was purposeful and publicized, starting with a lenticular invitation that showed images of a palm tree juxtaposed with the Empire State Building. Then, there was last night’s party for close to 2,000 (according to security personnel estimates), which took over the New York street at Paramount Pictures. “I was in L.A. looking at venues, and when I went to Paramount, I was like, ‘This has to happen here. It’s the perfect place for it.’”

Why the move? “We wanted to change it up, and celebrity events are a lot easier to execute in L.A. because everyone’s here," Civitello said. "We knew we’d have access to the most important celebrities on the list. It’s something that the entertainment community gets really excited about.” MORE >>

Hennessy, Music Awards on Pre-Thanksgiving Weekend Calendar
Thanksgiving may be only a week away, but events haven't completely vanished from the weekend calendar. Hennessy will host a party at a private mansion in the hills on Mulholland Drive on Friday night in celebration of its "Flaunt Your Taste" ad campaign. Expected among the 250 guests is Selita Ebanks, who is also expected to model a jeweled bra set worth millions in tonight's taping of the Victoria's Secret holiday fashion show; DJs Rashida and D-Nice will spin. And on Sunday, the American Music Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be taped at the new Nokia Theatre and broadcast live on ABC.   —Alesandra Dubin
