Svedka Event Programming Brings Art and Music Together in Los Angeles and Beyond

Svedka vodka—with its edgy, futuristic brand image—has been busily blitzing Los Angeles and other U.S. cities with events this summer, including two simultneous programs running now: Svedka Adult Playground 2033, and the Svedka Vodka Sessions. "Through these, we've stayed true to our event strategy, which is being very edgy and outrageous," said Spirits Marque One LLC chief marketing officer Marina Hahn. "We only do events that are going to really wow our consumer and make people think that Svedka is that brand of the future that they want to be a part of."

For Adult Playground, the brand recruited the country’s nightlife impresarios to create their vision of nightlife in 2033. Brent Bolthouse kicked off the series with an event at Milk Studios on August 12 where, for the first time, Bolthouse showcased his personal photographs, taken during a trip to Greenland. Future Adult Playground events will take place in New York as well. "The whole idea is almost Iron Chef style: Who can come up with the best version of nightlife in the future?" Hahn said. "It gives us a fantastic connection to the best and brightest in the nightlife scene." MORE >>

Left-Leaning Hosts Planning Biggest Election Night Parties in L.A.
With California expected to fall squarely in the blue-state column next Tuesday, and Los Angeles always a Democratic stronghold, the slate of election night parties around town leans dramatically to the left. While some hosts support the Obama-Biden ticket unabashedly, others just claim they want attendees to exercise their right to vote—and, in many cases, will reward voters with free drinks and prizes on the historic day.

The California Democratic Party, California for Obama, and Generation Obama Los Angeles will host a massive free party—possibly for more than 7,000 people—at the Hyatt Century Plaza, with hosts Dwayne Hall, Annie and Chuck Winner, and a roster of cohosts including Senator Barbara Boxer, Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, and Sarah Silverman. Z Trip and Jason Bentley will DJ, and Shepard Fairey—the artist behind the iconic Obama posters so ubiquitous in recent weeks—will create live art and possibly also serve as a DJ. Headline talent is still unconfirmed. Generation Obama L.A.'s Bim Ayandele and Boon Saleem are among the executive producers on a huge committee overseeing the event, and Evolutionary Media Group's resident Obama campaigners Jennifer Gross and Yosi Sergant are helping out with production. Svedka Sends Tongue-in-Cheek Earth Day Messages at Fred Segal Party

While the Misshapes and model Agyness Deyn manned the turntables at Fred Segal last night, cocktail party host Svedka commissioned models to send the vodka purveyor's particular brand of Earth Day message. Women in rhinestoned T-shirts and silver lamé leggings held protest-style picket signs bearing messages like "Help end global warming—add more ice," "Give peace a shot," and "Mix liberally—drink conservatively" (themes from Svedka's "Join the Party" ad campaign).

Meanwhile, the Event Department pushed an Earth Day message of its own by way of example: The caterer's flame-painted, propane-powered truck attracted attention in the jammed parking lot.   —Alesandra Dubin

Us Weekly Party Integrates Sponsors' Wares at Buzzed-About New Beso
Us Weeky's Hot Hollywood party

For its Hot Hollywood party, Us Weekly uses the if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it approach. The magazine's formula is to bring as many of the celebs who deck its pages as possible to the most buzzed-about new venue in town. For last night's event, the mag used the same plan, only the party took over a new restaurant, Eva Longoria Parker's Beso, instead of a nightclub (last year's party was at Opera and Crimson).

Gina Schramm from the magazine oversaw the event, which honored celebrity designers, as well as more plebeian designers and their celebrity muses (Us' editorial choices). The weekly's style icon of the year honoree, Heidi Klum, plus celebrity designer of the year Lauren Conrad were among the attendees. MORE >>
