VMA Hospitality Suites Pick Venues With L.A. Character
|
Back in Los Angeles after a long absence to tour other cities, MTV's Video Music Awards rolled into town this past weekend with all of the related events in tow, including those ubiquitous swag and hospitality suites. And this time, the suites took over some distinctive L.A. properties that seemed to call attention to the particular character of this year's VMA host city.
Hype Marketing's House of Hype took over a massive home above Hollywood, a property so big and far from its neighbors that it dominates an entire hillside. The setup at the house featured a photo booth and T-shirt screenprinting by Hit & Run by day, with live performances by Young Jeezy and Robin Thicke into the wee hours throughout the weekend. Guests reached the property—which features a grotto pool, a sand volleyball court, and expansive downtown-to-ocean views—by way of shuttle from a parking garage on the Sunset Strip below. Video directors Chris Robinson, Jessy Terrero, and Anthony Mandler nominally cohosted the House of Hype programming in honor of their award nominations.

MTV's VMA Weekend: Who's Going Where

Of course, MTV has a packed lineup of official events related to its Video Music Awards in town this weekend, but unofficial events also abound. Here, some of the entries on the weekend calendar:
Blender will host an intimate group of about 150 for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on Saturday at Bardot in Hollywood in honor or nominee Katy Perry. Franki Chan will DJ.
Good Charlotte and the Veronicas will perform, and Samantha Ronson will DJ, at In Touch Weekly's "Icons & Idols" party on Sunday after the awards. The party—sponsored by Tigi Bed Head, Three Olives, and Burger King—will be held at the Chateau Marmont. Vox Entertainment will handle the sound, lighting, and staging for the concert.

MTV Blanketing L.A. With Full Slate of VMA Events

MTV's Video Music Awards are taking over Paramount on Sunday, and the network has planned a bevy of related events around the show, in addition to the many unofficial, unaffiliated hosts also throwing parties and presenting hospitality suites around town this week. Here, a rundown of MTV’s official schedule:
Tonight, 944 magazine will host its two-year anniversary party at the Kress, which will double as MTV's official VMA week bash. Ne-Yo will perform.
