To recognize X Games star Travis Patrana—known for stunts such as a double back flip on a motorcycle and jumping out of an airplane without a parachute—Red Bull hosted an event at the Avalon Hollywood to toast and roast the motor sports icon. “If you think about the X Games, Travis Pastrana has revolutionized it, so we decided to take this opportunity to do a roast/tribute, do an after-party, and make this the biggest event of the X Games,” said Christina Hwang of Red Bull’s event team.

The presentation, hosted by comedian Arj Barker, started around 8:30 p.m., and was followed by an after-party at adjacent venue Bardot. Inside the Avalon Theater, a stage set built by Russell Harris Event Group for the event included white panels and, for the guest of honor, a throne-like chair emblazoned with the energy drink's name. The scripted presentation included video greetings from Pastrana’s friends and family members as well as live toasts from friends including Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, Sal Masekela, and the crew of Nitro Circus, an MTV reality show that follows Pastrana. Bandage-Covered Maxim Party Invite Goes for Shock Value
Maxim's leggy invite

Maxim made a strong, if shocking (and arguably gross), impact with the invitation for its party at Hollywood's new Stork lounge Thursday night. The front of each simple, glossy card featured a photographic image of a man's hairy leg, on which a real bandage concealed a cartoonish knee wound. The text read, "This won't hurt a bit." Removing the bandage revealed the words "Extreme Sports Party," and the back of the card revealed the specifics. The X Games ran through Sunday at Staples Center and Home Depot Center.   —Alesandra Dubin

Oakley and New Era kicked of the 14th annual X Games with a pre-party at the Key Club on Wednesday night that featured a performance by T-Pain and Lil Jon, and invited journalists to a gifting suite ahead of the games, which wrapped on Sunday. Jeremy McCassy, alternative marketing manager of Oakley, oversaw the suite setup for that brand.

Media folks, athletes, and V.I.P.s held court in a private area in the club that served as a gifting lounge where guests scooped up merchandise from Oakley and Muscle Milk. Reporters in the designated private area held on-camera interviews with athletes and celebrities. MORE >>

The X Games may have officially wrapped up on Sunday, but the daredevil antics that characterize the sporting event continued well after the last competition with Rolling Stone’s post-games party at Avalon. As V.I.P.s like Tony Hawk, Jason Ellis, and Sal Masekela—who hosted the event—arrived, bikers soared and flipped off ramps set behind a synthetic grass arrivals carpet. Rolling Stone director of special events Keira Ford tapped Ark Endeavors’ Noah Flom to produce the event, and he had the idea of creating the arrivals ramps, as well as a mini skate and freestyle BMX park on the venue’s dance floor, complete with rail slides off the stage and a selection of ramps.
