Wynter Mitchell is the West Coast sales and marketing manager for OK magazine, coordinating 10 events per year for the weekly pub. Events include cover parties, Oscar-night dinners, outdoor fitness events, and others that tie into the magazine’s editorial content and with advertisers.
Venues: “Among a few that I’m really loving right now is Goa. It’s the perfect venue because it’s intimate, but it’s also opulent. Even though it can hold 500 people, the way it's designed is very sophisticated and tasteful. Foxtail, to me, is one of the most sophisticated venues that has recently opened. It looks like Art Deco with a U.K. feel, and it’s intimate, which is big on our list—we always want to be on a one-on-one level with our guests. Green Door also has a different feel, sort of Euro. I like when venues take artistic risks.”
Decor: “We used trees by Amber Ash Design for our Oscar party, and they were a smash. Melina Kevorkian is the creator of the trees. After the fires from the hills, she [collected some of the] branches, sandblasted and painted them, set them in really decorative pottery, and adorned them with different clusters of colors—very pretty, tasteful, and simple. We put them on the tables at the party, and since then, she’s been putting them in celebrities’ homes and at different events. They just look wonderful.”
Graphic Design: “I work closely with Michael Watt, an independent graphic designer. He does Web sites and online invitations, which is something that a lot of people are transitioning into when planning events because it’s cost-effective and it saves paper. But to send out an invitation online, it has to stand out—it has to look amazing. It has to be visually appealing where people say, ‘Yeah, I want to go to that event,’ and Michael makes that happen.”
DJ: “English Mafia. They play an eclectic mix of music. They play things that are modern and current, and they throw back, too. They play rock, pop, hip-hop, techno—which is not very popular in L.A., per se, but they know how to work it into a mix.”
