Park Place
Adolescent Russian fashion designer Kira Plastinina made her L.A. debut with an all-pink party, fashion show, and Chris Brown concert in a vacant parking structure on La Brea.
If MTV's My Super Sweet 16 shows 16th birthday parties on steroids, then Kira Plastinina's L.A. launch party was like MTV's show on steroids. The adolescent Russian fashion designer debuted her wares in Los Angeles on Saturday night—only days after her milestone birthday—with an all-pink party that took over a parking structure on La Brea, a derelict building that is under renovations and had never hosted an event. Kira Plastinina PR director Stacey Grunert worked on the event with Harrison & Shriftman, headed up by creative director Ryan Jordan, who also worked on a New York show for the designer in January.

Befitting the designer's age and style sensibility, heart gobos covered the fully pink-carpeted party space, which included a ramp from street level up to a middle floor, as well as a rooftop smoking and lounge area. "The venue was perfect," Jordan said. "After you walk through the doors, there's this giant ramp, which gave us time to build the mystery and suspense for guests."

A runway stretched nearly the length of the main floor, and guests sat on the steps flanking it or stood alongside to watch models trot in the designer's sequined and bow-embellished looks. "We wanted to give the show a unique angle, so we flipped it on its head and had the models enter and leave at the end of the catwalk, rather than the beginning. Also, we wanted guests to get as close as possible and really feel part of the show."

A peep-show-like area, where models primped behind glass, allowed guests to peek backstage. "One of the best elements of a show is the backstage drama and energy, so we wanted guests to experience it," Jordan said.

The party space also featured two interactive areas. Female guests were encouraged to leave kiss marks and messages using lipstick on a freestanding wall. And in another area, Kira Plastinina clothes and accessories were available for guests to use in impromptu photo shoots.

After the show, pop performer Chris Brown (who is only three years older than Plastinina) took the stage for a set of his Top 40 hits. Brown's dancers rejiggered their standard choreography to work with the catwalk set up for the models.

"The concept came from thinking about Kira, her life, her brand, and how we've only just launched her here, so there's a lot of mystery and intrigue," Jordan said. "I came up with the concept of entering into Kira's fantasy world, Kira's fantasy closet. A world of fashion, music, style, and girly fun."

Guests scooped up fresh doughnuts and pink gift bags as they waited at the valet station after the event.
