Los Angeles Marathon Announces Date Change
The staff of the Los Angeles Marathon announced yesterday a significant date change—next year's race will now be run on Memorial Day, May 25, rather than President's Day, February 16. An official email memo from the staff of the race cited the reason for the move as "an effort to create a world-class runner experience." A Los Angeles Times story suggests organizers needed more time to prepare, and also the original race day fell on a holiday during which many city residents work.

Participants will not need to reregister, unless they cannot run on the new date, in which case the marathon will process refunds. L.A. Marathon director of program development Rod Dixon, a former Olympian and New York Marathon winner, is creating an updated training schedule to prepare runners for the new date.

LA Marathon LLC, formerly known as Going the Distance, operates the race.
