The theater Redcat celebrated its fifth anniversary atop downtown hotel the Standard on Wednesday with a party that included some particularly eye-catching entertainment: an underwater opera by Juliana Snapper. About 300 guests gathered around the pool at the venue to watch Snapper’s performance, a concept she conceived and has been performing since last year. Snapper entered the pool and sang directly into water using her bouche a l'eau (mouth-to-water) technique, while a projection of the underwater piece shone on an adjacent building.

Other performances included musical and staged acts from Ann Magnuson, Carl Hancock Rux, Kristina Wong, and DJs David J and Aurelito & Shakespeare of I & I Sound System. The Redcat organization partnered with arts publication ForYourArt and the Standard for the event.
