| EMA and E! Debut Eco-Friendly Globes Fete |
| Organic food and decor targeted environmentally conscious celebrities. |
|
| The Environmental Media Association and E! Networks went green with their inaugural eco-focused Golden Globes celebration, in a landscape of—what else?—green. The cable channel’s executive director of special events and promotions, Wendy Schellinger, worked with Jeffrey Best of Best Events and Rene Delacueva of R. Jack Balthazar to produce the environmentally minded event in a verdant spread of sustainable plants and trees on the rooftop at the former Robinsons May department store building at 9900 Wilshire in Beverly Hills, right near the home of the ceremony and other parties at the Beverly Hilton. |

Natural decor dominated the viewing-party tent, which featured a series of two- by four-foot foliage-heavy panels of wall art and wooden chandeliers decorated with lily grass. Best custom-made reclaimed wood tables and stand-up bars for the 250 guests who dined on an organic four-course meal (incorporating locally grown and fair trade ingredients where possible) by chef Akasha Richmond, who offered guests entrée options of Asian flavored short ribs, Alaskan steelhead salmon, or a vegetarian henna-seed-crusted tofu dish—all served on recyclable bamboo plates, of course.
Organic French fries, mini burgers, grilled pimento cheese sandwiches, and BBQ chicken pizza hors d’ oeuvres awaited the additional 750 guests who spilled into an outdoor mingling area and additional tent, which housed a stage for a KT Tunstall performance. Panels flanking the stage bore planet-friendly tips such as “Unplug your charger.” Nonprofit organization TreePeople helped the hosts practice what they preached by agreeing to plant one tree for every attendee in an effort to offset the carbon emissions produced by the event. The trees will be planted throughout the Los Angeles area.
