| Marc Jacobs in L.A.: Flowers, Fairies, and Films |
| Always a stylish host, the designer feted his Los Angeles store opening with 600,000 roses—and a few half-naked dancers for good measure. |
|
Designer Marc Jacobs may sell clothes, but it was the flowers at the opening party for his Los Angeles store that got all the attention. More than 600 staples of the fashion flock from both coasts rejoiced at the tented fete amidst 600,000 multicolored roses. (“I have never seen so many beautiful roses,” Vogue’s Anna Wintour told Fashion Week Daily. “I thought just the roses were worth the trip.”) |

Floral designer—and New Yorker—Raul Avila used the fresh-cut stems throughout a three-block-long clear-span tent on Melrose Place in front of the Art Deco-style flagship store. The event producers at KCD called their idea for the party “Technicolor and fairy dust,” and decor included multicolored paper lanterns and nearly naked dancers, clothed in glittery body paint and fairy wings. A billboard over the store featured a projected montage of films recently restored by the Film Foundation, which got a donation from Jacobs to give the event a fund-raising.phpect.
Jane’s Addiction front man Perry Farrell and Red Hot Chili Pepper Flea served as the DJs for the night, spinning tunes for the likes of Jimmy Fallon, Nicole Richie, and Winona Ryder.
