OVERVIEW
An outpost of the San Diego Zoo 35 miles away, the animal park is home to more than 3,500 animals and 1.5 million plants. The African-style open-air, thatched-roof Mombasa Island Pavilion overlooks a lagoon; the Heart of Africa features grassy knolls covered with eucalyptus and passing rhinos, giraffes, and gazelles; the Hunte Nairobi Pavilion has a 35-foot vaulted ceiling.
