May 13, 2014: ABC Promotion Pays for Marriage Licenses, Santa Convention Hits Florida, What Event Planners Should Charge

1. ABC PROMOTION PAYS FOR MARRIAGE LICENSES: To promote a wedding between two characters on the show Modern Family, ABC paid for all marriage licenses and City Hall wedding costs for couples getting married in New York City on Monday. Actors Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet made the announcement on Good Morning America. Philly.com: http://goo.gl/VoLqnr

2. SANTA CONVENTION HITS FLORIDA: What does a convention of Santas look like? About 300 of the men who portray St. Nick will be in Tampa, Florida, this week for the International Santa Celebration. Tampa Bay Times: “You can expect to see herds of Santas as they head out for excursions on the golf course, see the mermaids of Weeki Wachee or ride the roller coasters of Busch Gardens while they are in town for a weekend of seminars, workshops and a trade show. The Columbia restaurant dining room will be thick with St. Nicks Thursday and Friday night during the convention with tables reserved for jolly old elves.” http://goo.gl/qqDdBQ

3. WHAT EVENT PLANNERS SHOULD CHARGE: For a primer on what to charge clients for social and corporate events, consider factors such as your experience, vendors, and geographic location. Entrepreneur Press: “A word of caution, though: Don’t charge too little just to get the job. Although clients shop around for the best price, a planner who comes in too low with an estimate may be as off-putting as a planner who comes in too high. Your client may question your ability to throw a top-tier event based on the price you have quoted.” http://goo.gl/hUcmJL
