May 6, 2014: See the Eye-Popping Fashions at the Met Gala, How Drones Can Help Event Marketing, Coldplay Promotes Album With Willy Wonka-Style Stunt

1. SEE THE EYE-POPPING FASHIONS AT THE MET GALA: In the end, many men ignored the “white tie and decorations” dress code for Monday night’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute gala. But that doesn’t mean guests played it safe. The New York Times: “The Met Gala is that one event where you can be artistic as you want when it comes to fashion,” said the actress Zoe Saldana, in a dress by Michael Kors. “You don’t have to worry about hit-or-miss. You just enjoy the artistry of the fashion.” http://nyti.ms/1fPhGK4 New York magazine’s the Cut blog has a roundup of the red carpet looks: http://thecut.io/1mwFfFZ Earlier in the day, First Lady Michelle Obama spoke at the opening of the museum’s new Anna Wintour Costume Center. 2. HOW DRONES CAN HELP EVENT MARKETING: A drone captured aerial views of this weekend’s SunFest, Florida’s largest waterfront music and art festival. WPTV West Palm Beach: “I'll use it for my promotional video next year,” SunFest's marketing manager, Melissa Sullivan, said. “We're growing in reach—last year we sold into 43 different states—so video is important for us to be able to give a taste of something they've never heard of. And video is so powerful. The drone is just using the latest technology.” http://bit.ly/SwbX1n

3. COLDPLAY PROMOTES ALBUM WITH WILLY WONKA-STYLE STUNT: To promote its latest album, Coldplay had handwritten lyrics from its nine songs hidden in libraries on five continents. It then used Twitter to lead fans to their location. Fast Company: “Using the hashtag #lyricshunt, the band informed fans that not only would they have the opportunity to get a preview of frontman Chris Martin's present poetic sensibilities—one of the envelopes containing the handwritten lyrics would also include a “golden ticket” with free airfare and tickets to attend the band's London performance in July at the Royal Albert Hall.” http://bit.ly/1o1XqXL
