The Metropolitan Opera went public this week with the need for a new director of special events. Wendy Westwood, director for more than 27 years, retired in April with entrepreneurial pursuits in mind. The job description (posted on Idealist.org) notes that the next director will be responsible for planning more than 70 events per year, including the 125th anniversary gala in March 2009. The Met is still interviewing for the position.
In other news, Sharp Communications, a public relations, advertising, and design firm, has expanded its team with several new hires. Ed McCarthy, account manager in the media planning department, previously worked for Ogilvy & Mather and G2 Direct & Digital; Maria Corredor, senior account executive, came from Goodman Media International; and Alison Nakamura, senior account executive, worked at Veeder & Perman Public Relations.
