FROM LOS ANGELES
For Hollywood types, a good strategy is to gather no moss. And in the spirit of continual reinvention, Entertainment Tonight took its annual Emmy party sponsored by People to Vibiana—after hosting it for the last two years at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Like Disney Hall, Vibiana, an opulent former 19th century cathedral, is downtown, only minutes from the Nokia Theatre, where the Emmy ceremony took place. ET and The Insider executive producer Linda Bell Blue oversaw the party, with planning from the shows' communications vice president, Lisa Summers Haas, who Bell Blue credited with fielding the hands-on challenges and details with grace. The internal team again tapped Bounce Entertainment, headed by Carleen Cappelletti, to produce.
“We've had the party in many locations, and we thought it was time to move to a new place. [Vibiana] reminded me of Europe with all the mosaics and everything,” Bell Blue said. Summers Haas, who noted that TV Guide’s aannual party was cancelled this year, added, “It takes six months to plan this party, and six months ago, people were wondering if there was even going to be a party. Walt Disney Hall just did not seem right—it's grand and huge. But Vibiana—any time you walk through that door you immediately say, 'Oh my god.' It's so beautiful, so intimate."

FROM NEW YORK
The first New York City Wine & Food Festival this weekend filled the meatpacking district—and some other areas—with celebrated chefs and foodies for a four-day celebration of all things culinary. Led by Lee Schrager, director of special events for Southern Wine & Spirits and founder of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, this Northeast series was produced by Karlitz & Company and benefited the Food Bank for New York City and Share Our Strength.
Covering a variety of topics, the weekend-long fair included more than 70 individual seminars, panel discussions, food demonstrations, cooking classes, and large-scale tasting parties. And even with food squarely center stage, the biggest events of the festival—Burger Bash, Sweet, Chelsea Market After Dark, and Midnight Music and Munchies—also provided musical entertainment, from DJs and roaming performers in elaborate costumes to a coffee psychic and an appearance from Tom Colicchio singing and strumming a guitar.

IFC Concert Bridges South by Southwest's Film and Music Festivals

FROM AUSTIN, TEXAS South by Southwest kicked off last Friday and runs through Sunday, bringing hordes of film and music lovers to Austin, as well as hundreds of bands, filmmakers, and corporate (party-hosting) entities. This year, IFC, a longtime sponsor of the festival, sought to bridge the gap between the more low-key film festival and the highly popular music portion with a party that could appeal to both sets and introduce the channel's brand to music fans. The Crossroads event, featuring Yo La Tengo and My Morning Jacket, kicked off the music festival to a packed crowd on Tuesday night at the local landmark live music venue the Parish.
Given the nature of SXSW, which has long been a source of new and upcoming musical talent, the IFC event team had to decide which kind of acts they wanted to book. “We considered classic, established acts as well as newer ones,” said Lauren Burack, vice president of promotions and events at IFC. “At the end of the day, the one-two punch of My Morning Jacket and Yo La Tengo was too tempting to pass up. Both are established bands with fiercely loyal fan bases, and they embody the essence of the SXSW music scene.”
