Miami Makeover
The first Miami Makeup Show offered up new techniques and products for professionals in the Magic City.
Foundation colors, lipstick choices, eyeliner and airbrushing techniques, and more were the topic of conversation on February 24 and 25 at the first Makeup Show Miami at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The Powder Group and Metropolitan Events and Production, a New York-based event company, began the show in 2006 in New York City as the first trade show for makeup and beauty professionals. Following its success there, the Magic City seemed like the next logical step, according to Alan Boss, president of Metropolitan Pavilion--the event venue in New  York under which the production company was created.

James Vincent, a top New York makeup artist, with clients including Anderson Cooper and America's Next Top Model, created the look featured at the show, which included colors such as Miami Miami eye shadow, Indigo Eye pencils, and Bling Diva glosses. Throughout the two-day event, Vincent-along with other top makeup professionals including Billy B, Michael DeVellis, and Eve Pearl-conducted education seminars on such topics as "Ten Words to a Stronger Career," "The Business of Makeup," and "Airbrush Basics."

As attendees wandered the convention hall, vendors chatted them up, offering tips and free demonstrations of their products. Cosmetic companies of all kinds, from the demure and sweet to the camera-ready and outrageous, were in attendance. One of the most noticeable trends at the show, and an eye-catching display, was airbrushed makeup-complete with half-naked models wandering about as they showcased the technique and final results.
