| Remix-ing the Trade Show |
| The seventh annual Remix Hotel Miami opened yesterday with much fanfare at the National Hotel on South Beach. |
|
For the third year in a row, the National Hotel is home to Remix Hotel Miami event, now in its seventh year. The annual event, sponsored by Remix magazine, Beatport.com, and Snow Queen Vodka, began Thursday and will run through Saturday. Described as "the magazine come to life" by its creator, Joanne Zola of Penton Media, the Winter Music Conference trade show showcases music and technology, with some of the top companies and DJs in the industry coming together to present and test the newest products.
Taking a different approach to the traditional trade show or industry showcase, organizers set the event around the hotel's pool and lobbies. Instead of using standard table and square-booth arrangements, companies such as Apple, Access, Microsoft, Serato, and Sony displayed their wares in the poolside cabanas and on the balconies of the first-floor suites. |

Dance-music fans and enthusiasts lined the National's driveway on Wednesday to gain access to the poolside show and party. Upon registration, they were given bags with all the exhibitors' information, as well as a Remix Hotel T-shirt.
The displays began inside the main lobby, where the hotel's lounge furniture was removed to make way for the turntables, speakers, audio equipment, and other devices used to create the hot sounds heard in dance clubs around the world. Company representatives were on hand at each of the displays, cabanas, and first-floor suites, spinning music and ready to talk about their products.
At the far end of the National's pool was the Beatport.com pool party. Here, select DJs got the chance to run the turntables and perform for avid fans.
