MOCA and Vanity Fair Welcome Ari Sala to Art Basel 2008
Last night the Museum of Contemporary Art, in conjunction with Vanity Fair/Vanity Fair International, hosted its annual Art Basel Miami Beach kickoff event. More than 2,000 art lovers stepped out to celebrate the opening of the "Anri Sala: Purchase Not By Moonlight" exhibit and get ready for the art-filled weekend ahead.

Guests entered through Albanian artist Sala's exhibit of films, photographs, and sculptures. The films corresponded with effect lighting, both of which were set on times that directing viewers' attention from one piece to another. Several drums, played by hands-free drumsticks, were rhythmically synched with chosen films' soundtracks.

Once through the exhibit, guests retreated to the outdoor plaza for Grey Goose cocktails, Starbucks coffee, and a special performance of Sala's original score "A Spurious Emission," performed by members of the Cleveland Orchestra.

Also outside, John Rossetti of 2Taste Catering took guests on a culinary journey through four different biodome-style food stations, each highlighting a different type of cuisine and floral motif: grasslands, rain forest, taiga, and the wetlands of Asia.

V.I.P.s including designers Donatella Versace and Calvin Klein were spotted in the museum's temporary Vanity Fair lounge, with high back white couches from Le Basque Productions.
