From a bistro to a burger joint, here are four new (and one returning) restaurants in downtown Miami.

1. The Urbanite Bistro opened on September 10 and doubles as an art gallery exhibiting a monthly rotation of local artists’ work. The 4,200-square-foot space seats 83 and is divided into three semiprivate areas comprised of a main dining room and two lounges that each have a bar for 15. The eatery is open for lunch and dinner and serves Floridian cuisine with international influences in dishes like alligator egg rolls. For buyouts, the space can host as many as 250. In addition, a 4,000-square-foot garden is slated for completion by the end of the year. MORE >>

Despite the uncertain economic climate, new restaurants, bars, and hotels—like the MIA at Biscayne, the Bancroft Supper Club, and W South Beach—have popped up around Miami this summer. The insurgence of new venues throughout South Florida looks to be continuing in the coming months. Here’s a look at four of the most anticipated openings.

1. STK
This upscale steak house is scheduled to open in November at the Gansevoort South hotel and will be operated by the One Group. The bilevel space will be able to seat as many as 600. There will be four private dining rooms on the second floor that can accommodate groups of 10 to 30, or 100 when combined. The champagne bar on first level can also host events. MORE >>

The latest watering holes to open in downtown Miami include two Irish pubs and a combined restaurant and lounge. Here is a look at the new outposts, all of which offer semiprivate event space, performance stages, and TVs for presentations.

1. In downtown Miami, Brickell Irish Pub opened in August as a forum for live entertainment, casual bar games, and a selection of more than 40 whiskeys. The 5,000-square-foot first floor has a 150-square-foot stage, a 35 foot-long bar, and seating for 130 at highboys and booths. Overlooking the stage, the 1,500-square-foot second floor has dart boards, a foosball table, and a small bar for about 25. For alfresco dining, a 550-square-foot sidewalk café has eclectic antique furniture and lounge chairs for 60. The venue also has 18 50-inch and seven 42-inch TVs throughout for presentations, as well as a 136-inch projection screen on the first floor. MORE >>

A new crop of upscale yet affordable restaurants has sprouted up in Miami during the past several months. Here’s a look at three venues that specialize in different cuisines and offer seasonal menus and buyouts for events.

1. Au Pied de Cochon opened on Washington Avenue on May 29. Operated by French restaurant group Les Frères Blanc, the 6,000-square-foot Miami outpost is situated on a corner lot inside a two-story Art Deco building. Replicating a traditional French brasserie from the 1940s, the main dining room, which seats 90, is dotted with brass chandeliers, oversize gilt-framed mirrors, and paintings that echo the Art Nouveau mural from the Paris flagship, open since 1947. For alfresco dining, South Florida architect Charles Benson created a landscaped patio for 40. The restaurant is open 24 hours, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner and features a menu of fresh seafood and brasserie fare. MORE >>

One of Miami’s culture-rich neighborhoods, Coconut Grove is just a quick jaunt from Coral Gables and Miami and offers a variety of options for business entertaining. Here’s a look at three venues appropriate for lunch, dinner, and drinks.

1. Husband-and-wife duo Yoan and Alejandra Acosta opened Neighborhood Bistro earlier this year. The affordable eatery, ideal for a quick midday bite, is housed in the space formally occupied by French Kiss restaurant. The menu keeps to those roots, serving French-inspired dishes, all priced less than $11. An L-shaped black marble-topped bar runs the length of the 900-square-foot restaurant and separates the open kitchen from the indoor dining area. An air-conditioned patio can seat an additional 14 for alfresco lunches or accommodate about 20 for afternoon receptions. The entire restaurant seats 30 and is available for buyouts on a case-by-case basis. MORE >>

3 Poolside Dining Spots in Miami Beach

Essensia Lounge at the Palms Hotel and Spa
Essensia Lounge at the Palms Hotel and Spa
Forget the hamburgers, ice cream, and simple snacks; poolside dining on Miami Beach has evolved. Here’s a look at three hotel restaurants with poolside views and high-end cuisine.

1. The Palms Hotel and Spa opened Essensia, its new Mediterranean restaurant, on Mother’s Day weekend. The eatery consists of three areas: a dining room for 65, an indoor/outdoor lounge, and an outdoor terrace seating 120. Interior design firm Ba-Haus Knf drew decor inspiration from the hotel’s beach locale, using shades of white, coral, and blue as well tropical elements like the capiz shell chandeliers in the main room. Adjacent to the indoor dining room, the lounge has two seating areas inside that accommodate eight each, with additional seats for 20 at the three-sided bar and wicker chairs positioned throughout the space. The lounge’s 1,182-square-foot covered terrace has lounge furniture accommodating 20. The 2,000-square-foot wooden terrace overlooks the pool and botanical gardens. MORE >>

Trendy boutique properties and five-star resorts are a dime a dozen in South Beach. But if the conference is in Palm Beach, check out these three new and newly renovated hotels.

1. Set to open next month, the Omphoy Ocean Resort will be Palm Beach’s first oceanfront boutique property. Owner Leslie Schlesinger designed the 134-room hotel in a simplistic style with subtle Asian influences such as silk wall sconces and a koi pond in the lobby. The resort will have 5,000 square feet of meeting space accommodating groups as large as 125. Catering on the property is exclusive to James Beard Foundation award winner Michelle Bernstein’s two on-site restaurants, Michelle Bernstein's at the Omphoy and Michelle Bernstein Terrace, which can host private and semiprivate gatherings. The 2,500-square foot Exhale Spa can also be used for events. MORE >>

The 204-seat restaurant has a relaxed cigar room ambience, with metallic earth tones, copper walls, and brown marble floor tiles, complete with chocolate leather banquettes, wooden tables, and a crescent shaped bar and stage.
