Last month, French bistro Lemon Twist reopened on Miami Beach’s Normandy Isle, a man-made island west of North Beach, with a new owner, new chef, and a refurbished dining room for 65. Originally opened in 1998, the restaurant was converted into a sports bar in 2006 before closing last May, when restaurateur Alain Suissa purchased the venue.

The 1,800-square-foot space has been redesigned with garnet-colored walls, lace curtains, dim lighting, and a partial tin ceiling. The main dining room includes a 10-seat bar running along the left wall. A communal wooden banquette along the right wall seats another 12, and four-person tables fill the space in between. For receptions, the tables can be cleared to make room for 120 guests. Additionally, a covered sidewalk patio seats 20. MORE >>

Yesterday the South Florida International Auto Show wrapped up its 10-day exhibition, which began on October 23, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The 39th annual show's total square footage shrank by about 40,000 square feet—to approximately 350,000 square feet—from last year, and organizers saw an increase of nearly 45 percent in discount ticket sales.

"Historically, about 20 to 25 percent of people [attending the show] use a discount ticket," said Richard Baker, president of the South Florida Automobile Dealers Association, which organizes the trade show every year. "This year more than 65 percent of people are using our $2-off ticket. They're going out of their way to get it." MORE >>

The Fifth, a staple nightspot and event venue in South Beach, closed three weeks ago for renovations and rebranding. Last night the new owners (Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel among them) reopened the 10,000-square-foot space as Club Play at an event for more than 500 event and hospitality industry professionals, the first of three parties for its grand opening weekend.

"We looked at the people who come to the club and the South Beach scene and [decided] we needed to rebrand to fit our clientele and the area," said Club Play's director of operations, Mark Scott. "We have a lot of N.F.L., N.B.A., hockey, and soccer players that come to our club, along with a lot of artists and people that are part of the South Beach scene who are players in one form or another, so we took that and came up with Club Play, which incorporates everyone and everything they want to do." The dining room and patio are decorated with shades of blue and green, inspired by the venue's oceanside location. The indoor space has new celadon and turquoise seat cushions and quartz-topped pedestal tables. The upper dining room, adjacent to the restaurant's main bar, now has a custom-made mahogany and maple wine cellar that houses 1,000 wines.
