Maxim Dramatizes "Hot 100" Party's New York-to-L.A. Move
|
FROM LOS ANGELES
Maxim is not a magazine known for doing things subtly or quietly. So when the pub took its “Hot 100” party—which celebrates 100 women recognized in the magazine’s June issue—from New York to Los Angeles, Alpha Media Group’s corporate events director, Amanda Civitello, made sure the move was purposeful and publicized, starting with a lenticular invitation that showed images of a palm tree juxtaposed with the Empire State Building. Then, there was last night’s party for close to 2,000 (according to security personnel estimates), which took over the New York street at Paramount Pictures. “I was in L.A. looking at venues, and when I went to Paramount, I was like, ‘This has to happen here. It’s the perfect place for it.’”
Why the move? “We wanted to change it up, and celebrity events are a lot easier to execute in L.A. because everyone’s here," Civitello said. "We knew we’d have access to the most important celebrities on the list. It’s something that the entertainment community gets really excited about.”

FROM SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. While the NFL plans to offer the masses a dose of Tom Petty at the big game tomorrow, corporate planners are heading in the opposite direction this weekend, giving the packed Arizona parties a whole lot of rap. The 944 Super Village at SouthBridge kicked off the concert-heavy festivities on Thursday night with a 50 Cent performance. The artist rapped on a gigantic stage in an (unheated) tent, with Paris Hilton gyrating alongside him. Pontiac sponsored the evening—and, not surprisingly, its 2008 G8 car (which 50 codesigned) on stage was impossible to miss.
In a more exclusive turn, Jenny McCarthy and Holly Robinson Peete hosted the "Best Damn Super Bowl Party Period" on Thursday (a play on Peete's' husband's Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox Sports), with Ludacris entertaining a crowd of 300 at the private Rockridge estate in Phoenix. Next up for the HollyRod Foundation: an invitation-only Chris Rock performance tonight. Diddy also took the stage on Thursday, at Scottsdale nightclub Axis/Radius for Anheuser-Busch's Bud Bowl.

Pam Bristow Offers Alternative Fashion Venue With Budweiser

Producer Pam Bristow has a history of staging fashion shows in alternative locations (including Tamsen at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers and Charlotte Ronson at the Box). But this season, she went even further and created Grand, a temporary venue in the courtyard of the Soho Grand Hotel, to showcase young fashion designers. The space, complete with a tent, café, and media lounge, opened September 5 and closes today. The goal, Bristow said, was to bring avant-garde art back to SoHo. It's sponsored by Budweiser Select.
Why Grand?
I formulated Grand as a young designer show destination. The Bryant Park tents are inaccessible for many designers, and the Grand concept was to give these artists a premier show space—in SoHo, the historic hotbed of cutting-edge artistry.
Why are there more and more alternative locations to show during Fashion Week?
There are many reasons—creative, financial—but really, designers are artists, and it will always be impossible to keep the younger, most creative ones bound to a template. They need options. I love that I could provide one of them.
