Marking the final stop of its North American tour, "Tutankhamum and the Golden Age of the Pharoahs," comes to New York next spring with an exhibition at the Discovery Times Square Exposition facility. The exhibition marks the first time a show of treasures culled form Tut's tomb have been presented in New York since the Met's 1979 blockbuster exhibit. Group ticketing is available for 15 or more guests, and adult prices start at $25.50 each; special on-site lunch boxes and meal packages will also be available.   —Mark Mavrigian

The unseasonably warm weather this past week is an early reminder that summer is finally on its way. For those planning outings in the coming months, here's a look at three of the latest open-air terraces to become available for events.

1. Shang is the bar and restaurant in the new Thompson Lower East Side. Tucked away on the second floor of the boutique hotel, it has its own terrace overlooking the busy streets below. Comfy couches offer seating for 69, and the outdoor site can also be booked for parties of as many as 90. Up on the seventh floor, Above Allen is the members-only bar, which is also available for private events. The lounge has a retractable roof—so it can be used year round—and holds 150 for receptions.

Bars: Appropriately situated inside an old bank vault, Trinity Place is almost hidden from view—the entrance is on Cedar Street—but perpetually packed. From behind a 40-foot-long mahogany bar, the restaurant serves drinks as well as small bites like mini Kobe beef burgers. Farther south is Harry’s Bar, a bustling spot favored by traders. There’s an extensive list of spirits to complement dishes like clams on the half shell. MORE >>

Bars: Flex Mussels, an offshoot of a popular seafood joint on Prince Edward Island, Canada, is suitable for casual groups. The cozy 75-seat place opened in late November and offers 23 different mussel dishes, which can be sampled with beer or wine at the bar up front. For more formal gatherings, the classic haunts in this neighborhood tend to be the best bets for entertaining. The 75-seat Bemelmans Bar is one, best known for its Madeline murals, jazz entertainment, and inventive drinks. Lesser known as a drinking spot is the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden, which serves wine, beer, and cocktails. The pretty outdoor area is only open during the warmer months, typically between May and late fall. MORE >>

At a press breakfast this morning, Michelin Guide global director Jean-Luc Naret unveiled the 2009 Michelin Guide to New York City and its selection of rated restaurants and hotels. To be released tomorrow, the book includes 563 eateries in all, and of the 42 that received stars from the inspectors, some newbies made the list and a couple others jumped up in the ratings.

Masa, the highly regarded Japanese restaurant from chef Masa Takayama that currently holds four stars from The New York Times, moved from its two-star ranking to the top tier, joining Jean Georges, Le Bernardin, and Per Se in the guide’s highest category. The Michelin inspectors also bumped up Gilt, the in-house restaurant of the New York Palace Hotel, from its one-star standing to a two-star one, and awarded new restaurants Adour, and Momofoku Ko the same grade.
