Hennessy Reveals Black Cognac During Shadowy Night of Surprises

Amid considerable rain on Monday, Moët Hennessy USA debuted its new Hennessy Black cognac in a nightlife-inspired setting at 7 World Trade Center. Traditionally consumed in tamer environments (like your grandfather's study), cognac has a staid, conservative reputation that Hennessy is looking to reinvent with the mixable and shot-friendly Hennessy Black. Hence, the brand dubbed the party and its ensuing ad campaign, "Done Different."

"Everything we’re trying to do this evening is going to be different from what people have seen from us before," said Hennessy senior vice president of business Andy Glaser, adding that less production-heavy versions of the event are headed to eight additional markets this month. "This is a new cognac. The whole idea behind this event and this launch is that we're targeting an occasion where Hennessy hasn’t historically always played. When you think of cognac you think of quiet, contemplative situations. When you think of white spirits, they tend to be more hedonistic and active. So we’re trying to communicate this idea about Hennesy done different and cognac done different."

Upon spilling into the 49th-floor venue, the evening's 850 guests received that message loud and clear, as they were greeted by some 42 servers who doled out five juicy versions of Hennessy Black done "down" in a cocktail, or "up" in a shot. MORE >>

Hennessy Concert Brings Ne-Yo and Inflatable Decor to Gotham Hall

The final stop of this year's Hennessy Artistry concert tour landed at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall on Wednesday night, ending a series of six shows across the country that kicked off in Los Angeles on September 17. A crowd of more than 1,000, including Ludacris, Rosie Perez, and Joshua Jackson, lined up for the hot ticket and bottomless cognac.

Having hopped from Capitale to Nikki Beach in 2007, this year found Hennessy moving to Gotham Hall—its third venue in just as many years. Producers at Strategic Group set up the stage in the former bank’s main hall, but to break up the space, a makeshift lounge area lined much of the rotunda’s perimeter. Black walls covered in framed LCD monitors severed the two areas, and an awning made of hundreds of metallic balloons gave the lounge its own ceiling. MORE >>

Maxim Dramatizes "Hot 100" Party's New York-to-L.A. Move

Maxim is not a magazine known for doing things subtly or quietly. So when the pub took its “Hot 100” party—which celebrates 100 women recognized in the magazine’s June issue—from New York to Los Angeles, Alpha Media Group’s corporate events director, Amanda Civitello, made sure the move was purposeful and publicized, starting with a lenticular invitation that showed images of a palm tree juxtaposed with the Empire State Building. Then, there was last night’s party for close to 2,000 (according to security personnel estimates), which took over the New York street at Paramount Pictures. “I was in L.A. looking at venues, and when I went to Paramount, I was like, ‘This has to happen here. It’s the perfect place for it.’”

Why the move? “We wanted to change it up, and celebrity events are a lot easier to execute in L.A. because everyone’s here," Civitello said. "We knew we’d have access to the most important celebrities on the list. It’s something that the entertainment community gets really excited about.” MORE >>
