Henri Bendel Plants Models in Storefront to Promote Social Networking Push

Henri Bendel launched its official foray into social networking with a presence on Facebook and Twitter this past Monday. As a part of a nearly monthlong call to appeal to young female shoppers, the Bendel Girls campaign features a lineup of models using the retailer's Facebook page and reading its Twitter feed live from the storefront of its Fifth Avenue flagship.

Drawing inspiration from—or just plain capitalizing on—Gossip Girl's successful hybrid of fashion and social networking, Bendel's new push aims to build its Facebook fans and Twitter followers but starts in the stores themselves. Computer kiosks in each of its six U.S. locations will give shoppers a 20 percent discount when they become fans of the new Facebook page, and through Monday afternoon, the storefront stunt will showcase models perusing the Web site on a giant monitor throughout the day. Bergdorf Hires VP of Events, Seventh House Planner Shifts Industries
Teril Turner
Teril Turner
Teril Turner joined Bergdorf Goodman last Monday as vice president of public relations and special events. Turner, a 13-year Henri Bendel alum, most recently served as Bendel's director of marketing, producing close to 100 events annually.

“It’s been a long time since I've been the new girl,” Turner said. She is now overseeing events and public relations for Bergdorf's women’s and men’s stores, in addition to connecting the Bergdorf brand to consumers and media through experiential marketing programs, in-store stunts, and a bigger emphasis on designers and boutique launches. Producing close to 100 private and consumer events a year, Teril Turner has been the director of marketing for Henri Bendel since 1995. Turner is in the midst of finalizing plans for the launch of Elle Accessories' spring issue, in addition to preparing for an upcoming event with the Whitney Museum.

Florist:
"Meredith Perez and her team at Belle Fleur are a pleasure to work with, and their taste level aligns perfectly with our audience. For Mother's Day last year, since Belle Fleur was founded by a mother-daughter duo, they were a natural partnership for us to create a pop-up shop within the store. They offered a variety of floral bouquets to our customers complete with complimentary local delivery."

Caterer: "The team at Match Catering is always creative and enthusiastic. Regardless of the theme or occasion, they bring great ideas to the table that consistently delight and tempt our guests. For a special event we did in honor of the Nars Cosmetics photography retrospective, Match created Lucite serving trays embedded with images from previous Nars ad campaigns, which matched several of the photos on exhibit." Members Only Relaunches With Cocktails and Shopping at Henri Bendel

There's no shortage of associations with the Members Only brand: '80s fashion staple, ironically co-opted hipster accessory, cover-up of choice for way too many male characters in The Sopranos. While new Members Only creative director and designer Kelli Delaney isn't gunning to erase these memories from people's minds, she's definitely hoping they'll be eclipsed.

Her first strike in the effort was a celebration of the relaunch of the brand at luxe department store Henri Bendel on Tuesday evening, where the press, the odd celeb (such as Katrina Bowden from 30 Rock), and the public could preview the 40-piece line while sipping cocktails and grooving to a set from DJ Jacques Renault. The event also featured the promotion of celebrity hair stylist (and good friend of Delaney's) Ken Paves's Clip-In Extensions, which he created with Jessica Simpson. (Paves's team provided complimentary styling sessions to those who purchased one of the $100 extensions.) MORE >>

Henri Bendel Celebrates a Century of Signature Stripes

On Tuesday night, upscale retailer Henri Bendel threw a big birthday bash. Complimentary cocktails flowed, a band played, and designers such as Alice & Olivia and Anna Sui created one-of-a-kind dresses as part of the celebration. But the guest of honor had no comment regarding all of the fuss. Forgivable behavior, considering the feted party was, um, a stripe motif.

You see, 2007 marks the 100th year of Bendel’s signature brown-and-white stripes, and 300 guests, including editors, designers, employees of Hachette Filipacchi Media (a cosponsor), store vendors, and friends of the retailer gathered at the Highline Ballroom to mark the occasion. MORE >>

In 2004, David Manning, executive producer at LiveStyle Entertainment, and Al Silvestri, vice president and director of corporate marketing and creative services for Hachette Filipacchi Media, founded StyleLounge, an alternative site for Fashion Week shows. Rebranded this season as Style360, the concept incorporates new partners and more sponsors at the Metropolitan Pavilion, as well as off-site events. Style360 held its launch party on Sunday night, and its shows run through Wednesday.

Tell me more about the name change.
David Manning: There has been a lot of proliferation of gifting lounges, and we didn’t want people to misperceive [our events]. It’s not about lounging around—it’s a full-energy fashion showcase with a lot of integrated media. It’s about creating opportunities for consumers to come in and not just members of the industry.
Al Silvestri: When we first started [with StyleLounge], it was more of a loungelike environment where the nighttime events were important. The "360" part of this year’s program is about the 360 experience that really incorporates the retail, online, and other components. There’s a lot of moving parts. MORE >>
