FROM LOS ANGELES
For Hollywood types, a good strategy is to gather no moss. And in the spirit of continual reinvention, Entertainment Tonight took its annual Emmy party sponsored by People to Vibiana—after hosting it for the last two years at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Like Disney Hall, Vibiana, an opulent former 19th century cathedral, is downtown, only minutes from the Nokia Theatre, where the Emmy ceremony took place. ET and The Insider executive producer Linda Bell Blue oversaw the party, with planning from the shows' communications vice president, Lisa Summers Haas, who Bell Blue credited with fielding the hands-on challenges and details with grace. The internal team again tapped Bounce Entertainment, headed by Carleen Cappelletti, to produce.
“We've had the party in many locations, and we thought it was time to move to a new place. [Vibiana] reminded me of Europe with all the mosaics and everything,” Bell Blue said. Summers Haas, who noted that TV Guide’s aannual party was cancelled this year, added, “It takes six months to plan this party, and six months ago, people were wondering if there was even going to be a party. Walt Disney Hall just did not seem right—it's grand and huge. But Vibiana—any time you walk through that door you immediately say, 'Oh my god.' It's so beautiful, so intimate."

This year, for its 14th "Los 50 Más Bellos" event, People en Español shifted its focus from contemporary New York to old Hollywood. The Wednesday-night party, which marked the magazine's annual 50 most beautiful people issue, was held at Times Square's Art Deco Edison Ballroom, a move designed to highlight the motif of this year's issue, which showcases celebrities dressed as stars from the '30s and '40s.

No, those 6,000 women throwing synchronized punches and kicks in the park this weekend weren't preparing for battle—they were getting an afternoon's worth of branded exercise. Self magazine's Workout in the Park returned to Central Park's Rumsey Playfield on Saturday, with rows of new sponsor tents and a lower ticket price of $15 to please its many returning customers.
Now in its 16th year, the day of fitness makes stops in San Diego, New York, and Chicago each spring. And though there haven't been many dramatic changes from year to year, Self decided that 2009 was the time to revive the aesthetics—and lower the price by $5.
"In terms of our brand and our magazine's mission, now's the time to remind readers that while they might not be able to control what's going on in the economy, they can always control what they're doing with their body," said Self associate publisher of creative services Yung Moon. "By keeping this series fresh, we're saying to readers and advertisers that we're taking adventage of the strongest program we have and making it even stronger."

Museum openings aren't typically rowdy affairs—at least in New York. But last night, to celebrate the opening of its new local outpost, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame hosted a noisy, crowded party where guests snacked on funnel cakes, tagged bars with graffiti, and head-banged along to some rock 'n' roll tunes. Approximately 2,500 guests (double the expected turnout) toured the new Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex before heading upstairs to the main event, a fete produced by Relevent in collaboration with Running Subway Productions and Alison Brod Public Relations. Overseeing the affair for the foundation was Joel Peresman, president and C.E.O. of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

Bon Appétit Gives Supper Club Pop-Up a New Look

Bon Appétit's culinary pop-up is back. The two-week supper club and café opened today and will run through Friday, October 31. Taking over the same location as it did last year—the Midtown site that once housed the Hard Rock Café—the marketing ploy from the Condé Nast magazine will be open to the public during the day and play host to private events at night.
This time around, the planning team, led by Bon Appétit executive director of creative services Terri Smith, enlisted the help of production and design firm Relevent to create a completely different look for the space. Hudson Yards Catering was brought in to coordinate the food preparation and provide staffing. Designed to feel like a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of Midtown, the interior design features organic and earthy elements like tree branches.

FROM LOS ANGELES
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That was essentially the philosophy adopted by Entertainment Tonight and The Insider's communications vice president, Lisa Summers Haas, who plans ET's annual Emmy party, sponsored by People. After moving the party last year to the venerable Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall downtown, Summers Haas took stock of the event's success, and its ever-growing importance on the Emmy-night scene, and decided to keep the party exactly where it was for last night's incarnation—minutes from the award show's new venue, the Nokia Theatre.
"Last year, we were nervous. We were the first party to go downtown, and would anybody want to go downtown?" said Summers Haas. "Lucky for us, the event turned out to be fantastic. The Disney Hall formula worked—everything fell into place, so it was a no-brainer this year." Another bonus of the unmistakable-from-above Disney Hall: "ET and The Insider executive producer Linda Bell Blue wants something visually beautiful on the show." A chopper overhead captures the party's red carpet and bold logo gobos for TV.

Sponsors Get Prime Spots at People en Español Party

Despite heavy rain, close to 900 people turned up for People en Español's annual "Los 50 Más Bellos" fete at Splashlight Studios on Wednesday, May 16. Out of the thunderstorm, attendees found a clean space (not too far removed from the venue's main purpose as a photo studio) with minimal decorative elements and large sections devoted to the evening's sponsors. Cara Gorman, associate director of event marketing for People en Español, hired Matthew David Events to produce a look that emulated the first-class lounges found in airports and would provide an appropriate setting to incorporate liquor, cosmetics, technology, and automotive brands.
