After scrapping its Young Collectors Council Artist’s Ball late last year, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum has introduced a new event to gather patrons and honor artists. Yesterday, the museum revealed that on Thursday, October 29, it will host the first Art Awards, a ceremony and dinner sponsored by Calvin Klein Collection and conceived by artist Rob Pruitt.

"As the impresario behind the first annual Art Awards, Rob Pruitt presents a daring new event model injected with humor that underscores his work. Pruitt's orchestration of this performative piece—with the rotunda as center stage—is aligned with the Guggenheim's mission to continue to engage and present contemporary artists," said Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum director Richard Armstrong in a press release. MORE >>

Monet Meets Balanchine: For Kara Minogue, inspiration grows from institution. As a Boston University communications student, she discovered her calling while interning at the Museum of Fine Arts during its Monet in the 90’s exhibit. “I fell in love with the feeling of being in this institution—something bigger than oneself—where everyone is on the same team,” she recalls. After graduating in 1992 she accepted an internship with the New York City Ballet, which eventually led to a full-time position. Kara spent 13 years in the event department—eight as director—before opening her own agency, Kara Minogue & Company in September 2007. MORE >>

Art Benefit Hangs Colorful Fabric Over Paint-Splattered Chairs

Founded 30 years ago by Agnes Gund, Studio in a School is a not-for-profit organization with the goal of bringing art into public schools. To highlight this at the anniversary benefit on Monday evening, the Gagosian Gallery essentially became a paint canvas. Thousands of yards of blue, red, and green silk strips crisscrossed the space above the dinner tables like brush strokes, and the canvas coverings of the chairs and tables looked like Jackson Pollock pieces, splashed with paint.

Intended to remind guests of the creativity that comes out of the arts program, the colorful look of the event was reinforced by colored votives that ran down the center of each table. MORE >>
