Among the recurring motifs in the table settings at Diffa’s Dining by Design event this past week were a mix of fancy pieces and more rustic touches. There were thick ceramic plates, tumblers, and flatware in dark, heavy materials as well as a thick, fancy silverware. And several designers traded live plants for silk flowers. MORE >>

Metallics Shine at Orchid Dinner

Tuesday evening the New York Botanical Garden celebrated its Orchid Dinner benefit at the Rainbow Room with the customary mélange of tables decked out in a multitude of styles and packed with masses of orchids. Twenty-eight designers, largely from the interior design world, created settings ranging from traditional and elegant (like Baccarat's table with branches dressed up with orbs of orchids) to modern and austere (David Mann for MR Architecture and Decor's translucent column with branches of orchids laced within).

A dominant theme this year was the recurring use of metallic objects, like golden chargers at David Easton's table, shimmering golden lanterns at Vicente Wolf's setting, and shiny metal orchids accenting the design from Stephen Elrod for Lee Jofa. Other trends included a smattering of unique textile patterns (on napkins, table linens, and even chair pillows), and napkin rings crafted from unexpected objects. MORE >>

Bride Wars may be about two best friends competing to have their weddings at the Plaza Hotel on the same day, but for the film's premiere, stars Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway seemed content to share a party at Tiffany & Company's Fifth Avenue flagship. Following a screening at the AMC Lincoln Square, just over 200 guests were shuttled to the store for an intimate reception of shopping, cocktails, and a lot of blue.

Tiffany partnered with 20th Century Fox for the premiere, covering the entryway to the screening with a carpet in its famous hue. Notables Barbara Walters, Lisa Rinna, and a few of the ladies from Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York City all stopped for photos on the blue carpet. MORE >>

At Thursday's Orchid Dinner, the flower-filled fund-raiser the New York Botanical Garden hosts every year at the Rainbow Room, designers drew upon an old standby look, incorporating Asian elements into a large number of the 35 featured tables—with numerous decorative nods to China, perhaps playing up Chinese New Year, which began the day of the benefit.
