Women's Wear Daily broke news yesterday that the format of the Council of Fashion Designers of America's June 2 fashion awards is changing this year. Cocktails and a sit-down dinner at the New York Public Library are being scrapped in favor of a theater-style presentation. Dinner is still on tap, but it will instead take place after the awards presentation (which usually runs about an hour and 20 minutes) at the adjacent Bryant Park Grill.

"It's our seventh year at the library, so we were looking to change it up a bit," CFDA special events director Karen Petereson told us today. "And Bryant Park Grill was attractive because we could accommodate 50 more people than we usually can," bringing the guest list to 500.

Also in flux is the viewing party, which has taken place in Astor Hall the past two years. "We're still having 300 guests for the viewing party, but the location is yet to be determined," Peterson said. "It might be in the park; it might be in the library. We really won't know for a few weeks."

Raul Avila and KCD's Keith Baptista confirmed today that they'll be back to handle decor and production, respectively, but both declined to comment further. Peterson added that Trey Laird of Laird + Partners will return to handle art direction, T-Mobile Sidekick is back sponsoring the viewing party, and Swarovski will once again sponsor the dinner. In terms of the event's decor, Peterson said that production will occur at both the library and the restaurant, with the look and theme remaining consistent in both locations.

Next up for CFDA is a March 10 event (also sponsored by Swarovski) at Rockefeller Center's Rooftop Garden, where the nominees will be announced.
