With Javits Expansion All But Scrapped, Officials Now Eyeing Queens
The New York Post is reporting that state officials are looking at Queens for a possible site for a new convention center that, in the long term, would reduce the pressure on the Javits Center to meet demand by expanding its current square footage. According to today's paper, the availability of land (and the lower real-estate prices) make the borough an attractive option for a conference and trade show venue, and choices include the Aqueduct Race Track, Willets Point, and the Sunnyside railroad yards.

This doesn't mean that all plans for Javits have been completely abandoned, as there is still interest in renovating the current site, as well as recognition of the need to have an option for large meetings in Manhattan.
