| To introduce the New York media to its expansion plans, Dubai real estate firm Nakheel put all the attention on the floor, where a map in the carpet showed its waterfront projects in the emirate. |
|
| To capture the attention of some 100 members of the press, Dubai-based real estate developer Nakheel put the focus of its media debut on the floor with a graphic carpet that depicted an aerial view of its hometown projects. The six-year-old company hosted a three-hour press meet-and-greet at Espace yesterday to bring market awareness to its international holdings and expansion plans. Attendees could walk along the sites of Nakheel’s massive Palms Trilogy, a set of man-made, palm-tree-shaped islands housing hotels and homes; the World, a mixed-use development situated on 300 islands fashioned after the continents; and the Waterfront, a beachfront city currently on the rise. |

The centerpiece of the decor, created by Enhance a Colour, was the brainchild of MKG Productions. “We noticed that one of the client’s focal points was the aerial shots of its developments in Dubai. We needed to somehow display that map, but instead of putting it up on the projection, we brought it down to the floor. It serves as a good reference point for the folks from Nakheel to discuss the projects,” said Caroline Kiely, a project manager at MKG, who collaborated with a marketing team, headed by Miranda Rowe at Dan Klores Communications, on the event.
The placement of key elements of the overall design spoke to a progression in understanding the market and culture of Dubai. A four-part panel installation, detailing the emergence of the emirate as an economic force in the Middle East, sat at the front of the venue, and opposite the display stood an offering of traditional fare of Arabic coffee and dates. Wall-to-wall projections of serene blue seas and a coastal view of Dubai covered the main room, highlighted by arrangements of orchids. White leather sofas perched atop a platform in the main room, looking out onto the intricate flooring.
After rounds of cocktails and appetizers, the company gave a brief video presentation on the company’s vision, with key members of Nakheel’s executive management, including C.E.O. Chris O’Donnell, on hand to answer questions. As the evening came to a close, departing guests received an MP3 player loaded with the video presentation.
