| Whether you need to attract potential sponsors, create buzz on YouTube, or simply document an event, here are a few companies planners turn to for all forms of digital media.
The best testimonial a planner can give any vendor is repeat business. Dawn Townsend, program director for the National Kidney Foundation, has worked with New Jersey-based Elm City Communications, a full-service digital media company, for 16 years. For the foundation’s annual Transplant Games, a week-long Olympic-style event held in a different city each year, Elm City shot all of the events, edited the footage, and put together a highlights video (for sponsors, athletes, and the foundation’s Web site) by the end of the week.
Townsend says she chooses the company time and again not only for their quick turnaround, but for being conscious of her budget. “Every year they take a few trips out to the site where we will be holding the games to assess the technology that exists there in order to find creative solutions to minimize our expenses,” she says. “And they’re just awesome people to work with. Very personable.”
Ann Dean, programs committee member for the New York metro chapter of the International Special Events Society, recommends Tim Smith of Avenue Five Films. Avenue Five, which specializes in corporate event videography, provides coverage for all of the chapter’s monthly programs, including a recent moderated discussion on how to book celebrities for events. Dean, who is also director of special events for the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation, is pleased with the resulting video, which the organization uses to promote its educational programs. “He is on par with any videographer I have worked with, and I’ve worked with a broad range,” she says. “I’m considering him to shoot the foundation’s next annual gala.”
Part of the annual Couture Jewelry Conference, the Town & Country Couture Design Awards honors standout creations in the jewelry world. For last year’s awards, held at the Wynn Las Vegas, William Gibbons, the magazine’s associate publisher of marketing, held a runway show featuring the nominated jewelry. Gibbons turned to creative services agency Dogmatic Inc. to not only produce and document the show, but to also make sure every piece of jewelry was visible to all 1,000 guests. “It’s hard to show something small like jewelry, so they photographed all 110 pieces. During the show, they projected the still images onto large screens and interspersed them with video of the show as it was happening,” he says. In addition to events, Gibbons has also worked with Dogmatic on videos for marketing presentations, and says he’s satisfied with their work. “They have the ability to switch gears quickly. Sometimes we need to do things that are cutting edge, sometimes we need things that are more corporate, and they do all of those things.”
