| As we reported earlier this week, director of special events Sheri Low is leaving the American Museum of Natural History after 11 years. Now here's where she's going: On June 30, she will begin her next post as director of special events at the New York City Ballet. Won over by the idea of raising money for New York arts—and because she is a big fan of NYCB co-founder and choreographer George Balanchine—Low attributes her move to the exciting challenges of working for another New York landmark.
“Anyone who grows up in the city wants to give back,” said Low, a New York City native. “This opportunity was presented to me, and while I have loved fund-raising for education and research at the museum, it is time for the next step.”
In her new role, Low will oversee five benefits per year, including the annual opening-night gala. While supervising a team of three, the director will also handle cultivation events and a variety of dinners and receptions. She will work closely with Diane Nixa, the managing director of development and special events.
