| Three years ago Jeanne-Claude and Christo brought "The Gates" to Central Park, and on Thursday, Scandinavian artist Olafur Eliasson will debut a public art exhibition entitled "New York City Waterfalls." In addition to boat tours, there are waterfront spots where you can take a meeting or a client and see the installation. Here are four:
1. As the four different pieces are designed to be seen from the South Street Seaport, Pier 17 has the best views, and at the easternmost end of this is Sequoia. In addition to an East River-facing outdoor terrace, the bilevel seafood eatery from Ark Restaurants also operates the Waterfall Café, created especially for the exhibition. Open from noon everyday, the small bar and restaurant is situated on the first-floor terrace and serves casual fare like hamburgers, salads, and banana splits.
2. Further downtown, Battery Gardens is one of the few restaurants inside Battery Park and, since it's located at the southern tip of Manhattan, has an unobstructed view of the waterfalls off Governors Island and Brooklyn Bridge Park's Pier 6. The outdoor patio is good for groups on a sunny day; for bigger meetings, book the harbor view room upstairs.
3. On the other side of the East River is the ever-popular River Café, perhaps best known for its position beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. The outdoor terrace faces the water and holds as many as 100.
4. For the more casual group, check out the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation's temporary park set up on Pier 1, which is scheduled to open Thursday. Dumbo restaurant Rice will have a concession stand in the park.
