| City Museum Reveals New Gallery, Completes Phase 1 of Expansion |
|
| Earlier this morning the Museum of the City of New York showed off its newest addition—a three-level pavilion designed by architectural firm Polshek Partnership—with an official ribbon cutting and open house for the public. The new glass and aluminum structure is part of Phase 1 in the history museum's $97 million expansion project, which has been under way since it broke ground in 2006. Emphasizing the fact that it completed the building and renovations to other spaces on time and on budget, the Museum Mile institution also launched Phases 2 and 3 today with an expected completion date of 2011. |

Inside the pavilion is the new 3,000-square-foot James G. Dinan and Elizabeth R. Miller gallery, which has sunlight-diffusing glass to protect the valuable items on display and is surrounded by a 6,000-square-foot terrace. Also unveiled were a restored vestibule and rotunda in the main entrance as well as a newly landscaped and redesigned 4,700-square-foot terrace facing Fifth Avenue.
