| Warner Brothers Celebrates Sex and the City DVD With Empty Party |
|
It isn’t every day that a studio shells out money to celebrate the release of a DVD, but the events around the Sex and the City film have been unique from the start. So it probably wasn’t altogether inappropriate that Warner Brothers (which owns distribution rights to the New Line/HBO film) pulled out all the stops to mark the disc hitting stores tomorrow with a party at the New York Public Library this past Thursday.
The films’ stars, including Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall, showed up for the pink carpet and decadent decor, which featured pink and black dice as the running theme and a massive couch fashioned into Chanel’s interlocking double "C." We couldn’t confirm the price tag on the affair, but blogger and Internet celebrity Julia Allison reports it cost upwards of $1 million. The only thing missing from the party seemed to be guests.
Allison snapped a shot—later picked up by Gawker—of the space nearly empty at the early hour of 10:30 p.m. Variety also noted that Parker and company never even graced the real celebration. They went straight from the step-and-repeat to a “remote section of the Library's upper level as soon as they entered the building.” Despite the thin crowd, publicists manning the door reportedly claimed the venue was “at capacity.”
