Hidden-Away Chinatown Loft Is Surprisingly Roomy
Late last month, producer and photographer Laura Little and designers Jacky and Sabi Kampeas launched Chacala, a hidden loft space on the outskirts of Chinatown. After fully renovating the site—formerly the home of a cramped garment factory—the trio decided to offer it up as a spot for corporate, private, and nonprofit events as well as photo shoots and small press conferences.

Tucked away on the fourth floor of an unmarked building, Chacala is surprisingly roomy. Designed to make the space feel larger, the extensive refurbishment of the 6,000-square-foot venue included fabricating new walls and installing polished hardwood floors. Other interior details include bay windows overlooking Broadway, a custom bar, a cyclorama that can double as a surface for screening videos, and imported furniture. Although there is no prep kitchen for catering staff, Chacala does offer an area for back-of-house staff and equipment.

In addition to freight elevator access and on-site bathrooms, the venue can also provide production and design services. The entire venue holds 300 for receptions.
